#Heinzseriouslygood Challenge - Bite Size Open Faced Steak Sandwich with Horseradish Mayo & Garlic Toast



There is one condiment, and one condiment only for me – and that has to be mayonnaise.    No chip or sandwich is complete to me, unless it is slathered in the glorious stuff.    

When I found out that Heinz were celebrating the launch of their [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise, and set a challenge to create a recipe using it as one of the key ingredients I was flooded with ideas of yumminess!
The recipe is to be prepared and served on a single spoon, giving you a wonderful flavour packed morsel in one bite.    

After I found out about the challenge, I was flooded with ideas, but then it dawned on me.  One of my most favourite things to eat ever is the humble steak sandwich – and I knew I had to create one just for this very purpose.

The recipe is quick and easy to make, and is made with mostly store cupboard ingredients, but the end result is packed with a flavourful punch!   After all, what steak sandwich would be complete without mayo?  But in this version its jazzed up to make it that little more special.

Was quite fun making them into bite size portions, which could be served as a canapé at a party, or if like me – you can’t get enough can be made into a larger single portion for even more enjoyment!


 Preparation Time: 5 Minutes
Cooking Time: 10
Serves: 12 Bitesize Portions/ 2 Open Faced Sandwiches

  
You will Need:

2 Slices of White Bread
200g Steak – I used Beef Medallion steak as it has no fat so easier for slicing!
3 Tbsp Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise
Tsp Horseradish Sauce
1 Garlic Clove
Spray Oil
Salt & Pepper for Seasoning
Handful of peppery baby leaf lettuce for garnishing

Method: 

Spray the steak with oil, and season with salt and pepper

Heat a heavy bottomed frying pan or griddle until very hot.  Sear for 2-3 minutes on each side  depending on how thick your steak is.  Ideally you want it cooked rare, but cook it for 3-4 minutes on each side for a more medium finish

Take the steak out of the pan and leave aside to rest

Cut the crusts off the bread, and toast, can be done in the toaster or under the grill

Once toasted spray with a little oil (or butter) if you prefer and rub the garlic clove over the bread.

Cut each slice into six even pieces, and place on your serving dish, or like me on your serving spoon.

 Mix the mayonnaise and horseradish in a bowl, and spread onto the bread

Slice the steak into thin strips and place on top of the mayo

If using top with peppery baby leaf lettuce,  and you are ready to serve!


Eaten hot or cold, a truly delightful morsel!
